The biggest problem we've found in packing up the ice chest is
when the ice starts to melt and all your food is full of water and
ruined. So the key is to get the food & condiments up out of the
ice and water.
ICE CHEST TIPS:
Block ice will last a lot longer. Leave the block inside the bag it came in, and
place the bag standing up in the cooler. Make your own by using an empty
64 oz. juice container and freezing it. It works just as well, is cheaper and
more streamlined than a big block. We use two of these in our ice chest and
then add the crushed ice to fill in.

SHELF:
I use this shelf to get all my perishable food out of the ice. I have
a rectangular storage bin I borrowed from my daughters toys.
You can put all your aluminum cans under the shelf, then put all
your food in the bin. If items are still sealed (like lunchmeat etc)
they can be stored in the ice till opened.
Coleman Xtreme Cooler
We have tried several brands
but this one is the bestsofar.
We've had block ice last over 6
days in the desert in this cooler!
We may be looking in to a Yeti...
